Naima - NY Leather Jacket

No surprise given my base wardrobe, I'm always on the lookout for great leather jackets and, even more difficult to find, leather skirts. I fell in love with the Naima NY Leather Jacket the first time I saw it and was thrilled to discover a matching set of leather skirts alongside it. The jacket comes with a plethora of prim parts to raise or lower the hood, open or close the collar, various degrees of body shading - enough options to cause your head to spin. Luckily, the jacket includes a detailed sizing information card as well as a link to a fitting video, so all the combinations start to make sense.

There is also a demo available for the jacket - be sure and try it before you buy it. I can imagine it might require more fitting than some avatars are willing to suffer for perfection - but I can promise the reward is very worth the effort. There is a jacket Fat Pack available for L$3000 that includes a bonus Beige. Individual jacket colors are L$380 and come in Black Pearl, Blue Black, Blue, Red, White, Azure, Pink, Bordeaux and Gray.

The matching skirt is available individually for L$250 per color in Bordeaux, Beige, Black, Blue, Red, White, Pink, Blue Black and Azure. There is also a studded jeans skirt available and a Fat Pack of skirts (does not include the jeans skirt) for L$2000. There is simply an amazing level of detail on both these pieces that is not to be missed - the only thing more I could have asked for would be a long sleeved version.

Insolence - Melanie Lingerie

What can I say - I've been in a lingerie mood lately and when I got my Insolence group announcement about a new "sunny" lingerie set, I could hardly wait for the pictures to open. It was worth the wait and doubly worth it once I was trying them on - a perfect light sunny spring set. To quote camilla Yosuke from the announcement:

"The Melanie ensemble is a simple shaped, though highly detailed embroided tulle set. Every single flower and leaf was hand drawn between two orange juice sips, on the lightest tulle that I could find in the fabric stock."

What that all adds up to is gorgeous - though I am glad that a distinctly non-springish black was included in the six color choices. You can choose from white, black, cocoa, teal, red and violet at L$290 per set. Each set has both a corset top and a bra top in two layers, undershirt and shirt. The panties are also in both the pant and underwear layer and every set has matching stockings included.
.
I found that the set was perfect underneath sweaters and jackets and that the corset option was particularly flexible as a separate underlayer for other outfits. The detail on the sides (yes, the sides) of the panties is terrific and makes them a nice touch peeking out from under low cut jeans.
.

Melanie is now available at the Insolence Main Store at Venom.

A Piece of Candy - Birdie

Ever see something that just screams "Fun! You must own me!"? Well, the Birdie outfit by A Piece of Candy had me at the first look. Houndstooth! How often do you see houndstooth - especially in pedal pushers? And the matching black midriff sweater with prim shoulders to accentuate the sleekness of the look.

The pants are a lower waist with a jacket layer high waisted version you can layer on. The sweater can be worn with almost anything - I tried it with jeans, skirts and shorts as well as a variety of other pants and was very happy with the results. This outfit is an absolute bargain at L$ 175 - full of retro Jackie O. summer fun - all you need is the perfect sunglasses.

addiXion - Flower Lust Tattoo

I've been doing a lot of tattoo shopping lately and figured it was high time I did an article on one of the gorgeous pieces by addiXion. From florals to tribals and everything in between, addiXion simply has great ink. My most recent purchase and current favorite with short skirts and low backs is the new Flower Lust tattoo.

As always, the set comes in full body upper and lower layers with high, medium and low tan versions of each. There are also high and medium tan lower body versions in stockings, though none for the low tan option. The tattoo itself is a full floral down one side of the back from shoulder to thigh, wrapping slightly through the hips. The sweep of the tattoo's motion is clear enough that the pattern continuation is obvious even if separated by a skirt or shorts.

The design is a little pricey, even for a full body set, at L$690 - but I expect to get a lot of wearings out of it, so worth it in the long run. Certainly the sheer number of options in tone and layer make the extra flexibility worth the extra lindens.

LessThan3 - "Effing Work of Art" Tank

I can't actually remember how I wound up at this shop - I think it was while I was looking for new tattoos, but in any case, I've practically lived in this tank top ever since I bought it. I have quite a few tattoos that are full sleeve and difficult to find "the right" shirt to show them off and the minute I read the sentiment on the shirt ("I'm not an artist, I'm a [effing] work of art.") I knew that was exactly how I felt about my inks.

LessThan3 is a small shop with quite a variety of items - eyes, skins, tattoos, clothing and some wonderful art work among other things, all at reasonable prices. The "Effing Work of Art" tank is an absolute casual bargain at L$50. My only criticism would be that it comes in jacket layer only which can be tattoo unfriendly if you happen to have a single jacket layer tattoo as well. Most tattoos now come in multiple tones and layers, so this is a minor annoyance at best and certainly not to keep you from buying this tank.

The tank is a single piece, but if you like the cut, there is also a 4 pack of patterned tanks available for only L$150. The colors included in the "Death Punch" pack are Ice Cold (Blue), Pain (Red), Violent (Purple) and Poison (Green) and are shirt layer only.

Pick up a landmark while you are at LessThan3 at Vodou - they aren't packaged with your purchase and it took me a while to find my way back.

EarthStones - Stone Donut Jewelry

EarthStones is the first jewelry store I went into in SL and I've been going back there ever since. When I received the group notice about the Stone Donut Necklace, I finished up what I was doing and raced over - when the second notice about the matching earrings arrived, I was wearing an entire set within minutes. I've pulled them out time and time again since buying a set in Labradorite and I wish I had gone ahead and gotten a Fat Pack, darnit.

While the name is a pretty accurate description, "Stone Donut" doesn't capture the warmth and uniqueness of the polished stone and leather combination. The necklace has a high wrap loop combined with a drop to capture the smooth stone, finishing with a tassel at the bottom. The earrings compliment the necklace perfectly with smaller donuts and trim providing a simple, casual look that will nevertheless get noticed.
.
The necklace and earrings are sold separately for L$249 each and come with both brown and black leather included for the price. There are also four Fat Packs in each the necklace and earring sets that sell for L$750 and will allow you to have four colors to choose from for a total cost of $1500. The Classic Pack is comprised of Onyx, Lapis Lazuli, Mother of Pearl and Red Jasper while the Earthy Pack contains Golden Calcite, Green Apatite, Tiger's Eye and Labradorite. For the softer side, the Romance Pack has Sunstone, Moonstone, Rose Quartz and Amethyst and finally the Cool Pack rounds out the collection in Turquoise, Malachite, Chrysocolla and Lapis.

For a casual, earthy look that can't be beat, teleport to EarthStones Jewelry Main Store at EarthBound.

Haute Style & Co. - HSC Emee Top

I picked up two outfits from Haute Style & Co. at the Relay for Life Clothing Fair and have been remiss in not blogging at least one of them since then - especially since I just stood and drooled over even more clothes from HSC today. The HSC Emee Gown is comprised of the grey, high neck, sleeveless top that is the centerpiece of this article, sleek black pants, prim skirt and collar and stockings to dress you to the toes.

The prim skirt is a confection of netting, layering out and floating, balanced by the net prim collar. Take both off, add a belt, change shoes, pants, or even add a different skirt and you have a whole new look for a more casual venue where chic still counts. The whole ensemble sells for L$480, only in the color shown. With the majority of pieces being perfect separates (especially for those of us with overwhelming amounts of black, grey and red in our closets) virtually the entire thing can do double duty for the price.

While you are at the Haute Style & Co. Main Store, be sure and look around - I bet you leave with more than one thing. I always do.

The Basics - Redux

It's been a few months and some things have changed. While I still love my Fleur skins and pull them out all the time for outfits, my day to day look has switched to ::Tuli:: S5 (S6 coming soon) skins. Most often I'm in either the medium or the tan tone - natural, diva, classic or glam makeups. Tattoos still lean heavily to addiXion and iNFLiCT, though the Gecko design from Muisim is getting a lot of play time.

My favorite hair and the one I return to over and over is The Poynter by Armidi, but I recently discovered the Detour textured flexi hairs and am madly in lust, so we'll see. Writer is about all I've worn since buying it (in two colors, no less). I've looked at a lot of eyes and lashes in different colors and styles and I really don't think they are going to ever be changing - I stumbled across Glanz eyes early on and I simply love them. Along with the ::Tuli:: makeups, they are just perfect for me.
.
I suppose since folks have started asking me where my hair, skin, etc. came from, I should throw out a little advice to the "even newer than I" residents. If I had to pick just one tip to hand out it would be to invest in a good skin and shape. Pick up every demo you can find and keep trying combinations until one "fits". Don't hesitate to delete the ones that aren't perfect - the right one will come along and you won't be sifting through the maybes to find it when you have the L$ to buy it. And speaking of buying it - skin and shape are not the place to save Lindens, trust me.

A Perfect Day at the Beach

Tis the season for bathing suits and beaches and SL is full of terrific outfits to see and be seen in. I pulled a few out as summer starters to get myself in the mood for warmer weather. Recently I've been wearing (and blogging) a lot of clothes from Casa Del Shai and this is no exception - I adore the Zambia Safari Swimsuit (L$380). Shown here without the prim ruffles (which really make it two suits in one), the soft top and beautifully textured bottom come in all layers except jacket (very tattoo friendly). You would be hard pressed to find a pool or beach where you won't turn heads in this suit.

Chaospire is probably better known for flowing gowns and edgy fantasy outfits, but the Naiad swimsuits shouldn't be overlooked. Sold separately in blue, green and red for L$350, each set comes in a regular and sheer version in pants and shirt layers. There is also a Fat Pack that includes all three colors plus a tintable white (again, regular and sheer versions of all) for only $L800.
.
Finally, for the more resort and continental beach look, Cachet's Golddigger can either be worn alone or as a cover up for another suit. With both top and bottom in all layers, this outfit's wet open textures work with just about any combination of tattoo, suit or even jeans. It comes with matching earrings and a wide cuff bracelet to finish the look, so just add a strappy pair of sandals and you are off for a day in the sun.
.
Before you hit the beach, be sure and stop by Chaospire, Cachet and Casa Del Shai.

Maitreya - Desert Boots

I was perusing my shoes the other night and realized that I didn't own any casual shoes at all - nothing appropriate for hiking a trail or wandering in the woods. Having just picked up a few outfits that really *needed* something more rugged and less precarious than a pair of stilettos or sandals, I went searching. As I have so many times before, when I saw Maitreya's Desert Boots, I bought them immediately.

The boots come in green, brown, beige, mud and black and, for L$400 per color, you get both the laced and unlaced versions. Matching socks with prim cuffs come with each and, for the gal who spends a lot of time outdoors (or who just loves the look of these rugged boots), there is a Fat Pack of all colors available for L$1500.
.
Fun is an understatement and you will love the detail and the texture of the Desert Boots. Slightly scuffed, whether you choose to lace them up for serious hiking or slide them on and leave them unlaced for a casual look, you can wear these with skirts, pants or shorts.
.
For an afternoon of birdwatching (or people watching), pick up the Desert Boots at the Maitreya Main Store at Glam World.

A Perfect Color - Red

I've read across several different blogs that simply picking a color and searching on it can inspire some great outfits. Since that matches my "mix and match" philosophy on Second Life fashion and I was also in a serious RED (yep, all caps) mood, it seemed like a great idea. I decided to do at least one casual look, at least one evening look and then the third could be whatever the pieces leant themselves to merging into. I also eliminated outfits that had been blogged about recently.

I had a great time pulling together a few outfits and playing around with the studio controls and came up with three "ready to go" outfits. The first outfit I happened to have acquired earlier today - Cachet's Garbage Dress, which comes with 5 different belt colors including - neon red. I love the slim upper body combined with the puffy bubble skirt and bright cinch belt. Certainly evening wear with an edge. Maitreya's Verve Pumps (red) are a perfect match for the belt. I also have to say that this was my favorite picture of the bunch.

The second outfit is pure casual with Maitreya's Dune Boots (red), X2 Gothica's Dress Shirt (red) with the Hell and Back Light jeans from The Abyss. In retrospect, I should have tried black jeans or leather pants as well since the jewelry is Earthstones Yin Yang Red Jasper/Onyx, but I liked the final look anyway. Finally, I dug into the Canimal folder and pulled out the Rocker Jacket (stripey red) and one of my favorites, the Black Lace skirt. I tried several pairs of shoe and boots and they all looked terrific with this, but when I put on the ::69:: Succubus Pumps (Dark Cherry) I knew I had the perfect pair for the picture.

So, there you have it - red, red and more red. Which is what I have - tons more red. This might be a post idea that I need to revisit on a semi regular basis, just to keep things fresh.

Paper Couture - Italian Black Jacket

I suppose that after more than 4 months, I should be more sophisticated and knowledgeable, but I'm still learning and finding things every day. Paper Couture has been on my "places to go shop" list forever and yet I'd never been until today. What a mistake on my part! As soon as I saw it, I knew that the Italian Black outfit was going to be amazing and it didn't disappoint.

With all the distinguishing features of a little black dress - you know, the ability to go anywhere and change gears with an accessory or pair of shoes - Italian Black deserves a place in every wardrobe. The outfit is composed of a three piece prim jacket that drapes across the shoulders and dips to reveal the burgundy bodice beneath. Subtle belting cinches the waistline and finishes with a burnished gold buckle above the beautifully textured mid thigh skirt. I'm not normally a fan of gloves, but the matching burgundy opera gloves absolutely finish this dress to perfection.

Fun and sexy enough for a night of clubbing, it is also a classic look for a night of dining and dancing. This is a standalone item, so only available in the black and burgundy combination, but the burgundy is such a perfect complement for the deep steely greys and blacks that the outfit will be a the top of your list for "clothes that always look just right". There don't appear to be any limitations with shoes so you can switch up the tone easily with footwear, though I preferred classic pumps and ankle boots - I can say that the black stockings that are included will get a lot of wear on their own because of the subtle shading. With the jacket making the neckline so eye-catching, limited the jewelry to earrings, which seemed to work quite well.

All in all, Italian Black would be a bargain at L$400 even if I hadn't thought to pair the three prim jacket with the Digit Darkes Relay for Life Twilight gown for a very formal evening look. The gown was a RFL Clothing Fair exclusive, but the jacket looks equally spectacular on many of my evening gowns and little black dresses that are still available - definitely experiment here.

Don't wait as long as I did, definitely visit Paper Couture at Barcola today.

A Perfect Place - Dickins Photography Studio

Well, with the new viewer, I discovered that my pictures were coming out even more dismal than usual, so I went on the hunt for better lighting and settings. I wasn't really getting anywhere in finding the lighting I needed to show clothes to their best advantage, nor was I finding settings that weren't difficult to work with within lighting constraints. On a whim, I did a search for photo studio and Dickins Free Photography Studio came up. What the heck, if you can't find natural lighting you like, create some, right?

From the Studio Brochure:
Our photo stations are equipped with the N30 Deluxe Modeling Studio version 2.9, loaded with 240+ poses for male and females and dozens of backdrop images.
Controlling the modeling studios is easy. You can use the commands in the attached notecard or opt to purchase a low prices HUD which is good for any N30 Deluxe Modeling Studio version 2.6 and above.
What does all this mean? It means that I spent a huge amount of time trying different options and didn't even scratch the surface of what was available. You control the station with a series of commands on a channel specific to that station. There are also menus for driving the modeling table, lighting and effects or they can be touch controlled directly. You can learn all about this by either clicking around and experimenting or reading the Modeling Studio Abridged Guide that you are given.
.
You can start and stop the modeling table rotating as you move through the hundreds of poses either automatically on a timer, manually scrolling through or by choosing individual poses. There are effects such as snow, fog, bubbles and stars and a long list of various fog specific commands for density and colors. The lights can also be managed on a color by color or bank by bank basis allowing you full control of the lighting. The Modeling Studio guide and Dickins Photography Studio business card both have lots of information on optimizing your effects and enhancing the quality of your pictures.

I used almost none of the available options and only a fraction of the backgrounds, lighting and effects available (as well as being not the greatest photographer) and still got great results. I didn't even try out any of the available props this time, but you can be sure I will in the future. I can see this becoming a staple for the blog and a huge consumer of my time in Second Life.

Grab an armful of clothes (and maybe a friend), head to Dickins Free Photography Studio and have a whole lot of fun! (And don't forget to tip!)

The Abyss - Ele Zip Lingerie

The Abyss is one of those stores where there is something for almost everyone. I have some wonderful hair from there and their Hell and Back jeans get more wear than most any other single item in my wardrobe. While I'm not utterly convinced that the Ele Zip outfit is best worn as lingerie, I suppose that anything where the pants are panties probably qualifies by default.
.
The top is a full coverage back with a strappy front, the panties are, frankly, perfection. I loved this outfit so much that I refuse to keep it underwraps and quickly discovered that throwing on the aforementioned Hell and Back jeans and a great pair of boots made it a great edgy casual club outfit. It only comes in a dark gunmetal grey, but I don't think it would be nearly as strong a look in other colors. At a mere L$150, Ele Zip is a bargain and comes with four pieces to allow for choice in layers - very tattoo friendly.

Frozen Turquoise Valentine - Garden Drama

I spent part of the afternoon at the FTV (Frozen Turquoise Valentine) fashion show, taking notes and mentally spending money. When I got the show notice, I knew I had to go since I had just spent the morning shopping - mostly at FTV. I picked up two outfits, one of which, Coco, was featured on the runway - the classic black, white and grey power dress with a dramatic ruffled shoulder and opera gloves to add the final touch. My other purchase prior to the show was the outfit featured here - Garden Drama.

Garden Drama has a sleek silhouette with a hint of cutting edge in the high prim collar and a touch of the feminine in the soft fabric flares on the hip. The outfit consists of four pieces, slim pants, jacket layer top (good for tattoos), optional prim collar and prim side skirt. A very flexible outfit that can be mixed and matched with almost anything in your wardrobe, Garden Drama is only available in black and priced at $L400. Personally, I love the outfit and think it is well worth the Lindens given the myriad of options available for the individual pieces.

Group Gift of the Month - April

After being away from SL for much of April due to First Life stuff, it was like Christmas digging through all my group gifts for the month. I would have thought that after the huge number of hunts and giveaways in March there would be fewer group gifts. I was wrong.

Cachet sent out a pink Chanel inspired suit dress with a jaunty matching hat that set the tone early for a great month of group gifts. LBD's Zelma Shorts and Top in white inspired me to go shopping for a pair of breezy espadrilles. Kayliwulf Kingdom regularly sends out group gifts during the month and the two colors of the Fetishdoll 2.0 Latex Moonlight Gown (Chianti & Dandelion) definitely put the fetish in evening gown. Another designer gifting multiple colors was Silent Sparrow where members got the Beloved Shirt with lace in four colors (Cream, Fire, Rose & Twilight).

This month, however, Kouse's Sanctum led the pack with the Serena Gown in Midnight. With both Empire and Ballgown skirts, the fitted lace bodice and arm lace combine for a look that flatters any shape. The texture is lovely and the movement of the gown is graceful. Kouse's Sanctum, like Evie's Closet (currently on sabbatical), gives a member gift each month and they are consistently beautiful.

Insolence - Misty Line

After a "rather longer than I would have liked" absence while I was on the road, I arrive back only to find a fabulous batch of review copies from Camilla Yosuke of Insolence. Now, I adore Insolence and I love latex, so I'm breaking several unspoken rules - I'm not picking one piece and I'm not mixing it with any other designers beyond skin, tats and shoes. The Misty line is that great. It was the absolute best way to come back home to SL and a natural for my first return blog article.
.
I tried out 6 different styles within the line and thought they were all not only terrific but they all mixed back and forth beautifully. The Dionne is a latex catsuit including stockings, gloves, top, bottom (in both open and closed) and panties in a very tattoo friendly combination of layers. I have to say I thought the catsuit top was amazingly textured. The Grace style is an open cup, open pant ensemble sure to get far more than just a second glance.
.
I loved the open cup corset style of the Sally paired with ever so sexy garters, stockings, panties and gloves. Tracey is a classic bra and panty combination, while Wanda is a fetish edge open bra and panties. In the final judgement, I loved the Dawn style best of all, but not by much - the laced side bodysuit and zippered back panty were so perfect with my shape they looked made for it.
.
Yes, I'm a latex fan and I have some wonderful pieces from some of SL's (IMHO) best latex designers. With this line, Insolence has moved straight to the top. The textures and details are incredibly realistic, the line comes in a plethora of styles to suit any shape, taste or extracurricular activity.
.
Outfits are all in black and range from L$290 to L$490 with gloves, stockings, garters and panties also sold separately in the L$90 to L$120 range. As with most of Insolence's lingerie, the majority of outfits are tattoo friendly in a variety of layer combinations. Short version of all this? You *need* at least one outfit from Insolence's new Misty Line.
